MAggie Abby Molino is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for December 2023.Artist Statement/Bio:
I came to Earth loving buffalo, boots, hats and horses and howled when Mother tried to get me into dresses. Then Mother sewed me a dress with horses on the material and I had been outsmarted. There’s still a remnant of that dress in the little pink box Grandpa brought me my first sewing machine in. I love to sew. That was about the same time my father showed me how to use the Kodak Instamatic. Yet another true love was born. I’ve not been without a camera since.
In grade school, I met the piano and the pencil. I wrote poems and drew horse farm plans, Indiana sunsets and insects. I was the 1968 Indiana State 4-H Champion of Entomology Insect Identification and won a trip to New York City and Washington DC.I was still studying piano and performing on stage when I went to Indiana University Bloomington a few years later. There I majored in Journalism and Communications and took photography classes. I loved the dark room and the film camera.
While pursuing journalism I got a job at Bloomington Hospital as a clinical secretary and somehow, despite dreams of a radio broadcast career, I graduated, after five and a half years of studying, with a BSN in Nursing from IU Indianapolis. Nursing allows room for variety. I’ve co-owned a custom marine canvas shop where I designed boat tops and boat covers and worked as a professional seamstress while I water-skied my heart out and raised two boys; had a 50-year career in health care working in Clinics, Emergency Rooms, Psychiatric facilities, Hospitals and Nursing Homes; went through a stack of cameras of all types; and raised a riding and driving horse along with a menagerie of goats, sheep, geese, ducks, dogs, cats and pigs. While I haven’t owned a buffalo, I do decorate my house with bison, have a collection of boots and hats and wear them regularly. I now play a keyboard and am a Google Guide with over a thousand photos on line with nearly 23,500,000 views of my pictures.
As I say in my Google Bio: Nurse, Writer, Poet, Musician, Artist. Forever just isn’t long enough to explore life to its fullest, but photography helps.

“Something Every Week”
Curator: Ben Fusco
Artists: Alyvia Hebner, Matt Holman, Olivia Smith, Sam Meyers, Ricardo Ayala, Finn Hannan, Katie Holland, Mary Kate Hopf, Justine Horlander, Nathan Horlander, Nicole Pokorny, Nathan FreybergerOver 30 weeks between January and August of 2023, 13 artists/designers committed to making something every week, intending to display it on a 9x 12 paper poster. There were no limitations to what could be made as long as it was something every week. Some participants used their posters as an opportunity to experiment with mediums, styles, and techniques, while others drew inspiration from activities and environments. The collection of posters becomes a record of experiences over the 30 weeks. The project's foundational belief is that the more that can be created and seen, the stronger the initial ideas become and the more they can grow and change.

Kerry Anne Craft is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for February 2024.Kerry's Artist Statement/Bio:
I realized from a very early age that I loved to draw. I believe one of the ways I have managed through the years is finding and focusing on the beautiful things around me. Hopefully by using the gifts and abilities I’ve been given, I’ve captured some of that beauty for you. What artist doesn’t want to touch the heart of others with their work? That’s my true reward. I’ve been having a lot of fun capturing different historic monuments and locations here in my hometown, Muncie. One of the responsibilities we all have is to do what we love. It’s how we bless others, and I truly enjoy my work. Hopefully you enjoy it as well. It’s a little taste of where we’re from. Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

I have always wanted to be an artist, so I have done many different styles of art. From my days at Ball State working with oils and ceramics, to my days as a freelance graphic designer. My artwork is a culmination of years of experimenting. The majority of my work is done in what I call a “stained glass” look. Very reminiscent of the stained glass my father used to create. I also do Urban Mandalas which is my take on the traditional mandalas. Gordy Fine Art and Framing is proud to highlight the art of graphic artist John Morris who has lived in Muncie since 2014. The party will be on First Thursday, April 4, from 5 – 8 pm. The artist will be on hand. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. For this exhibition, Morris has made layered collages with physical clippings from comic books which he then translates into digital pixelated images in a computer program allowing them to be interpreted as a pattern for his larger-scale compositions made of Perler Beads.
Perler Beads originated as a therapeutic hobby for the elderly and is a medium far removed from the immediacy of digital design. His use of round beads introduces a contrast with the square pixels typical of digital images. The labor-intensive nature of working with the beads, which requires assembling thousands of beads by hand and fusing them together with heat, serves as a method for Morris to "reclaim labor."
At 6:15, John will speak about his work and his process.
The exhibit will remain on view through April 27.
Gordy Fine Art and Framing Company promotes talented artists and offers expert design and craftsmanship for framing and displaying treasured family possessions and works of art. Made In Muncie will have an opening reception for artist Aimee Maychack on April 4th from 5-8pm From the Artist: My artwork is an invitation to the viewer to step into the narrative, to insert themselves into the stories I tell through color, lives, texture, and imagination. For my story I focus on queerness, connections, sense of self from my own life and patterns, textures, and images from nature infiltrate my art. It compels the viewer to confront preconceived notions, reject binary thinking, and hold two ideas at once. My stories, my art, generate a dialog with you. What stories would you tell?Madjax Muncie

Nick Martin is the Muncie Artists Guild's “Artist of the Month” for April 2024.Nick’s Artist Statement/Bio:
I'm a local artist who loves to paint, draw, and experiment with art materials. I mostly do genre paintings: portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and abstracts. I like to work on a small scale so I can put in lots of details and move on to a fresh idea within a sitting or two. I earned my MFA from SIUE in Drawing and Studio Art, studied at Purdue, Alma College, and NMU. I started an Art group called Yorktown Art Lover's League in 2023, we meet every third Wednesday of the month at Smith Street Studios from 5-8pm. I teach art classes at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts and the YOC, do private art lessons, and teach tennis at the YMCA. I love teaching, probably because I've had some really exceptional teachers and am very curious. I try to make my classrooms and events as fun and educational as possible. It's great to see people with little art experience become surprised and enthusiastic about making more art, and it's always good to spend time with playful and creative people. My favorite part about art is sharing what I love and building our art community. People that make things have to put themselves out there a little, you have to be brave and genuine to do that. His work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

FOUND FIBER, FOUND OBJECTS, YARN BOMBING: Tactile & Telling.
Feature Fiber Art Installation
Debra Gindhart DragooYARN BOMBING isn’t GENTRIFFITI, fiber arts can be beautifully showcased in an art installation, perhaps through large-scale crochet or knit installations, intricate textile sculptures, or immersive weaving environments. The interplay of color, texture, and form in fiber arts lend itself well to creating captivating installations that engage viewers on both visual and tactile levels. These installations can explore themes such as identity, tradition, or environmental sustainability; offering a rich and immersive experience for audiences to explore and contemplate. Yarn bombing, also known as guerrilla knitting, is a form of street art where knitted or crocheted yarn is used to create colorful displays in public spaces. It’s a way for artists to add whimsy and warmth to urban environments, often covering objects like lampposts, statues, or bike racks with knitted or crocheted material. Yarn bombing can bring a lot of joy and creativity to public spaces.
Are you ready to be entertained? CCA’s First Thursday musical guest is Arttacgo Alexander. Sherry Adkins is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for May 2024.Sherry’s Artist Statement: Growing up in the countryside of Indiana, surrounded by fields, forests and wildlife instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature. Often, I would have a front row seat to the deer that wander into the back yard, a view of the many birds that would gather at the bird feeders, and the families of raccoons that would climb up the apple trees for a snack.
As an adult, I have a sense of peace and a strong connection to God being in nature. I often admired the natural details and textures in nature. I believe that where I find God the most is in the details. Through the art of pyrography, I aim to push the boundaries of drawing with heat and fire, and reveal an up close, detailed view of the wildlife and nature that surround us.Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

Alison Beam-Hindman is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for July 2024: Alison Beam-Hindman gained an appreciation for nature on the farm where she grew up in Northwest Indiana and from her father who sparked her early interest in the science of astronomy by pointing out stars by name in the clear, night skies. Beam-Hindman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University North Central and a Master of Arts from Ball State University.A self-taught painter, Alison found more time for her hobby after retiring from Ivy Tech Community College East Central. She joined the Muncie Artists Guild in 2015 and credits the other members with providing mentoring and friendship that she needed to hone her skills as an artist.
In competition with astrographic photographers, Beam-Hindman’s painting, “A Closer Look…”, won 2nd place for Imaging and also won the Judge’s Choice Award at the Great Lakes Astronomical League’s competition. Alison’s triptych paintings of Comet McNaught won first place for Imaging at the Annual Indiana Family Star Party in Frankfort, IN. Her acrylic paintings and one photograph have also won awards at the Muncie Artists Guild’s Annual Shows.
Beam-Hindman’s lifelong interest in astronomy and space exploration inspires much of her work as do space artists Chesley Bonestell, and astronaut/artist Alan Bean. Beam-Hindman is also a charter member of the Muncie Astronomy Club since 2000 and is active in the Club’s community outreach program on science education.
Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

They insist that they were framed and need our help to find the thief and bring them to justice. On Thursday September 5th, put on your Roaring 20’s glad rags and meet us at Dave’s Ally or Canan Commons starting at 5:30pm to pick up your Crime Tracker, then solve the riddles that will lead you to ten different business along Downtown’s main drag. In each correct location, you will find either a suspect or a piece of evidence to help you solve the mystery. Turn in your guesses at the lobby of Muncie Civic Theatre by 7:30pm, then stick around to cut a rug on the mainstage with Harmony Dance Studio while you wait to find out who the caper is and which of our local gum-shoes will solve the crime!
Anyone who successfully identifies who-done-it and the evidence proving it will be entered into a drawing for some spiffy prizes from our generous partners around town, but you must be at Muncie Civic during the drawing to claim your prize! If you want to continue the fun after the main event, keep your eyes peeled to find the Speakeasy details at the big reveal!
The Great Muncie Mystery is hosted by Ball State’s Office of Community Engagement, Ivy Tech Community College, Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, and our very own Muncie Civic Theatre.
