    Create your own paper mache masquerade masks. Masks may be customized for cosplay, Halloween, mardi gras, or a costume ball theme. Using new and upcycled materials participants will learn skills in the crate of sculpture and paper mache. After the two-session workshop participants will take home their self-made creations.

    Intro to Vinyl is a hands-on class series designed to introduce students to the fascinating art of designing, creating, and applying vinyl decals. Whether you're a crafting enthusiast or a complete beginner, this class is perfect for unleashing your creativity and producing eye-catching projects.


    Throughout the course, our experienced instructor will guide you through the fundamental techniques of working with vinyl. You'll learn how to use design software to create unique and personalized decals, explore different vinyl types, and gain insights into proper application methods.

    The class curriculum is designed to ensure that every student gets to explore their skills through three exciting projects. First, you'll create an adhesive decal, allowing you to practice the art of precision cutting and application on various surfaces. Next, you'll dive into creating a customized tumbler, learning the art of layering vinyl to produce stunning and intricate designs on a 3D surface. Finally, you'll craft a stylish canvas zipper pouch, combining both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality.

    Students will also have the option to create their own custom project using the skills they’ve gained during the class.

    You may not have noticed it before, but the spaces that we live, work, learn, and play in have all be designed by someone. Sure, some have been more intentional and certain details are often afforded more attention, money, and effort, but, nevertheless, decisions have been made. Sometimes the decisions were even made with you in mind!


    Join faculty and students from the Ball State University College of Architecture and Planning to explore the processes designers use to shape the world around us. This is part one of a two-part workshop series. This introduction will provide you with foundational skills that you will practice and exercise before our second workshop’s showcase event.

    Come explore the design process through paper airplanes and gliders. This hands-on and interactive workshop is specially curated for aspiring aviation enthusiasts, creative minds, and budding engineers who want to explore the fascinating world of flight and the art of design.

    Participants will learn about the physics of flight and practice engineering design skills by testing a variety of materials and prototypes to create your perfect flyer for our friendly competition.


    This workshop is led by Educator in Residence Pat McCrory, a PLTW teacher at Longfellow Elementary, in partnership with the Academy for Model Aeronautics.

    Connect with other older adults during this 6 session class. Instructors will guide participants through the basics of hand-building pottery techniques including clay preparation, treatment, and glazing. Students will each complete a custom place setting including plate, bowl, cup, and accessories. During the last class session, participants are invited to contribute to a community meal to use their place settings, sharing conversation about the role of food and meal times in family and cultural traditions.

    From brainstorming game mechanics and crafting game boards to designing characters and game pieces, participants will have the freedom to let their creativity soar. Various materials, art supplies, and tools will be provided.

    Participants will build a two-string guitar using a cigar box and a round wooden dowel. They will install an electric guitar pickup, and they will learn the basics of tuning and playing the instrument using a guitar slide.

    Create your own custom photo ornament! Participants will learn how to sublimate print a photo onto fabric and will then learn basic embroidery stitches and techniques to embellish and creatively adorn their favorite photos. Embellished photos will then be cut out, a ribbon hanger attached, and sewn together and stuffed like a small pillow to create a dimensional ornament.

    Design and Create your very own custom monogram or image rubber stamp. Unleash your creativity and make your mark with the Custom Rubber Stamps workshop, where you'll dive into the world of personalized design using the state-of-the-art Glowforge Laser Cutter. This hands-on workshop offers a unique opportunity to craft bespoke rubber stamps that reflect your individual style and artistic flair.

    By the end of the Custom Rubber Stamps workshop, you'll walk away with a set of beautifully designed and crafted rubber stamps that are exclusively yours. These stamps can be used for scrapbooking, card making, art projects, stationery, and more, adding a personal touch to every creation.

    Participants should have a basic computer knowledge. Completed stamps will be cut on the Glowforge Laser Cutter and will be available for pickup on Thursday, November 16 from 5–8pm. A variety of inks and stationary will be available for you to sample as you start your creative journey.
