Stephen M. Millben II is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for March 2024.Stephen’s Artist Statement/Bio:
I have always wanted to be an artist, so I have done many different styles of art. From my days at Ball State working with oils and ceramics, to my days as a freelance graphic designer. My artwork is a culmination of years of experimenting. The majority of my work is done in what I call a “stained glass” look. Very reminiscent of the stained glass my father used to create. I also do Urban Mandalas which is my take on the traditional mandalas. Mine use random images and doodles to create very complex images. His work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

Gordy Fine Art & Framing Co.
224 E. Main
Gordy Fine Art and Framing is proud to highlight the art of graphic artist John Morris who has lived in Muncie since 2014. The party will be on First Thursday, April 4, from 5 – 8 pm. The artist will be on hand. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. For this exhibition, Morris has made layered collages with physical clippings from comic books which he then translates into digital pixelated images in a computer program allowing them to be interpreted as a pattern for his larger-scale compositions made of Perler Beads.
Perler Beads originated as a therapeutic hobby for the elderly and is a medium far removed from the immediacy of digital design. His use of round beads introduces a contrast with the square pixels typical of digital images. The labor-intensive nature of working with the beads, which requires assembling thousands of beads by hand and fusing them together with heat, serves as a method for Morris to "reclaim labor."
At 6:15, John will speak about his work and his process.
The exhibit will remain on view through April 27.

Made in Muncie

Made In Muncie will have an opening reception for artist Aimee Maychack on April 4th from 5-8pm From the Artist: My artwork is an invitation to the viewer to step into the narrative, to insert themselves into the stories I tell through color, lives, texture, and imagination. For my story I focus on queerness, connections, sense of self from my own life and patterns, textures, and images from nature infiltrate my art. It compels the viewer to confront preconceived notions, reject binary thinking, and hold two ideas at once. My stories, my art, generate a dialog with you. What stories would you tell?Madjax Muncie

Nick Martin is the Muncie Artists Guild's “Artist of the Month” for April 2024.Nick’s Artist Statement/Bio:
I'm a local artist who loves to paint, draw, and experiment with art materials. I mostly do genre paintings: portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and abstracts. I like to work on a small scale so I can put in lots of details and move on to a fresh idea within a sitting or two. I earned my MFA from SIUE in Drawing and Studio Art, studied at Purdue, Alma College, and NMU. I started an Art group called Yorktown Art Lover's League in 2023, we meet every third Wednesday of the month at Smith Street Studios from 5-8pm. I teach art classes at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts and the YOC, do private art lessons, and teach tennis at the YMCA. I love teaching, probably because I've had some really exceptional teachers and am very curious. I try to make my classrooms and events as fun and educational as possible. It's great to see people with little art experience become surprised and enthusiastic about making more art, and it's always good to spend time with playful and creative people. My favorite part about art is sharing what I love and building our art community. People that make things have to put themselves out there a little, you have to be brave and genuine to do that. His work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

Alison Beam-Hindman is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for July 2024: Alison Beam-Hindman gained an appreciation for nature on the farm where she grew up in Northwest Indiana and from her father who sparked her early interest in the science of astronomy by pointing out stars by name in the clear, night skies. Beam-Hindman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University North Central and a Master of Arts from Ball State University.A self-taught painter, Alison found more time for her hobby after retiring from Ivy Tech Community College East Central. She joined the Muncie Artists Guild in 2015 and credits the other members with providing mentoring and friendship that she needed to hone her skills as an artist.
In competition with astrographic photographers, Beam-Hindman’s painting, “A Closer Look…”, won 2nd place for Imaging and also won the Judge’s Choice Award at the Great Lakes Astronomical League’s competition. Alison’s triptych paintings of Comet McNaught won first place for Imaging at the Annual Indiana Family Star Party in Frankfort, IN. Her acrylic paintings and one photograph have also won awards at the Muncie Artists Guild’s Annual Shows.
Beam-Hindman’s lifelong interest in astronomy and space exploration inspires much of her work as do space artists Chesley Bonestell, and astronaut/artist Alan Bean. Beam-Hindman is also a charter member of the Muncie Astronomy Club since 2000 and is active in the Club’s community outreach program on science education.
Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

The Great Muncie Mystery, 5-8pm
You are cordially invited to join the party Downtown during September’s First Thursday for The Great Muncie Mystery! A heist has taken place during one of Jay Gatsby’s parties. One of his most important guests had their necklace stolen and a servant was canned for it. They insist that they were framed and need our help to find the thief and bring them to justice. On Thursday September 5th, put on your Roaring 20’s glad rags and meet us at Dave’s Ally or Canan Commons starting at 5:30pm to pick up your Crime Tracker, then solve the riddles that will lead you to ten different business along Downtown’s main drag. In each correct location, you will find either a suspect or a piece of evidence to help you solve the mystery. Turn in your guesses at the lobby of Muncie Civic Theatre by 7:30pm, then stick around to cut a rug on the mainstage with Harmony Dance Studio while you wait to find out who the caper is and which of our local gum-shoes will solve the crime!
Anyone who successfully identifies who-done-it and the evidence proving it will be entered into a drawing for some spiffy prizes from our generous partners around town, but you must be at Muncie Civic during the drawing to claim your prize! If you want to continue the fun after the main event, keep your eyes peeled to find the Speakeasy details at the big reveal!
The Great Muncie Mystery is hosted by Ball State’s Office of Community Engagement, Ivy Tech Community College, Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, and our very own Muncie Civic Theatre.
