  • The First Guide // Immersive Installation by Adam Stacey and Makenzie Goodman 6pm to 8pm @ PlySpace Gallery 608 E Main Street, Muncie, IN 47305

On Thursday, November 18, Adam Stacey and Makenzie Goodman will host a one-night only immersive installation entitled, "The First Guide" in the PlySpace Gallery (608 E Main Street, Muncie) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Masks are required.

While at PlySpace Adam Stacey and Makenzie Goodman created "The First Guide", an installation focused on the past, present, and future of the White River that runs through Muncie. Through alternative and analog photography, slip-cast mold making, and an 8mm video projection they consider the historical, psychological and ecological significance the river provides to Muncie’s residents. Throughout their time as artist residents in Muncie, they have researched and interviewed residents, historians, and water advocates and explored the White River to trace past ecological trespasses and consider a way towards a sustainable future. Their installation will feature a recontextualized map of the White River made in collaboration with BSU School of Art 2D foundation students and Assistant Teaching Professor Devon Ward.

Stacey and Goodman, based between Los Angeles and Marfa, TX, have been collaborating together since 2016. Their research-based work incorporates a range of media, including photography, ceramics, video and found objects to create installations that explore values and belief systems associated with place. Adam received his Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from Alfred University and Makenzie received her Master of Fine Arts in photography from Brooks Institute. Their work has been shown widely throughout Los Angeles and they were recent residents at Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency program.

  • Recycling as a Creative Practice: Paper-Making with Found Materials // Workshop by Jordan Delzell 3pm @ PlySpace Gallery 608 E Main Street, Muncie, IN 47305

“Recycling as a Creative Practice: Paper-making with Found Materials”, which will be held on Saturday, December 4, at 3:00 pm, is a free workshop led by PlySpace Resident Jordan Delzell, that will introduce participants to the basics of paper-making using everyday materials that can be found in or near Muncie. Discarded paper, lint and plants will be blended, forming a pulp that can be used to create stationary, functional vessels or sculptural objects. By using discarded items that can be sourced in Muncie we will take collective action to reduce items in the local waste stream while also learning a fun and creative process that requires little experience, equipment and monetary investment.

Participants are encouraged to bring paper materials to recycle. This free workshop will begin with a more structured demonstration, with most of the time being devoted to self-directed experimentation or the completion of a specific project. Participants are welcome to take their creations home. Masks are required. Registration is required.

The workshop will take place in the PlySpace gallery, (608 E Main Street, Muncie) which Jordan will transform into a temporary recycling center. The recycling center is open to the public during the scheduled workshop time and during drop-in hours on First Thursday, December 2 and Monday, December 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. All are welcome to stop by during drop-in hours to drop-off paper to recycle and to learn more about the paper-recycling process.

  • Gallery Exhibition and Artist Talk // Jordan Delzell 6pm to 8pm @ PlySpace Gallery 608 E Main Street, Muncie, IN 47305

Jordan Delzell will host a one night exhibition and artist talk on Thursday, December 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the PlySpace Gallery (608 E Main Street, Muncie). this exhibition will showcase sculptural tools and installations that assist her in teaching and sharing the recycling process. Objects for measuring, holding and presenting paper in its various forms of transition will be shown as well as larger scale installations that illustrate the paper recycling process. This event is free and open to the public. Masks are required.

Jordan Delzell is a visual artist, researcher and recycler. Through foraging, collecting and scavenging material she reroutes items from the waste stream to sites of deep study and care.
