    Brink of Summer ArtsWalk
Downtown Muncie Announces Brink of Summer ArtsWalk + Flower Hour on June 4

Special edition of First Thursday to feature Flower Hour, Steamroller Printmaking, YART, live music, and more

Downtown Muncie's most-anticipated spring evening returns on Thursday, June 4, 2026 — the Brink of Summer ArtsWalk + Flower Hour.

Presented by the Community Foundation of Muncie & Delaware County, the Brink of Summer ArtsWalk + Flower Hour runs from 5–8 p.m.

A special edition of the monthly First Thursday series, Brink of Summer ArtsWalk is a community-wide celebration of the arts, local makers, and the vibrant culture of Downtown Muncie. This year's event features an expanded lineup of programming for attendees of all ages.

Flower Hour, presented by Wise Country Market with flowers provided by Normandy Flower Shop, invites participants to explore Downtown Muncie and collect blooms from 10 different locations to build their own one-of-a-kind bouquet.

You can purchase Flower Hour tickets in advance online or day-of at the event. Physical, printed tickets allow you to start your Flower Hour journey, and they can be picked up, if you purchased them online, or purchased in-person at the DWNTWN tent at the corner of Walnut and Charles Street.

Another highlight of this year's event is the Steamroller Printmaking Experience, produced by Tribune Showprint with a roller provided by MacAllister Rentals. Local and regional printmakers will create oversized prints using a steamroller as a press, and community members are invited to participate using pre-made blocks.

Additional programming throughout the evening includes:
-YART — a yard sale for art — where a wide variety of local makers and artisans offer original works priced under $40, located at the 400 block of Walnut St. and Canan Commons.
-Art exhibits and galleries throughout Downtown will feature local and visiting artists working in a variety of media.
-Round 1 of DWNTWN IDOL will also take place, giving performers the opportunity to advance to the finals at the fall ArtsWalk in October. 20 Contestants will compete for 10 of the finalist spots on the Canan Commons Stage from 5:30-7:30pm. Auditions for Round 2 begin June 5th. The winner of the final round will receive: $500 cash, a trophy, additional community performance opportunities, a one-hour photoshoot from Kishel Photography, professional skin prep, airbrush make up with lashes, and hair style for the photo shoot by Kara Leigh Robinson, an overnight stay at the Courtyard by Marriott,  and bragging rights as Muncie’s top performer!
-Live music and dance performances, food trucks, and local dining round out the evening.

"Brink of Summer ArtsWalk is one of our favorite nights of the year — it's a true celebration of what makes Downtown Muncie special," said Amanda Holmquist, Executive Director of Muncie Downtown Development Partnership. "There's genuinely something for everyone."

Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.

At 6:15 Gordy will give an informal talk about his work

“Brian Gordy’s paintings remain central to the identity and legacy of this gallery,” said owners Barbara and Carl Schafer. “His work reflects decades of observation of the natural world and a deep understanding of watercolor as a medium.”

A signature member of the American Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor Society of Indiana, and the Red River Watercolor Society, Gordy has exhibited throughout the United States and earned numerous awards for his paintings. His work is included in the permanent collections of Minnetrista, the Sheldon Swope Art Museum, and the Richmond Art Museum. He has also received the designation of Indiana Artisan for his paintings.

Throughout his career, Gordy has painted the rivers, wetlands, forests, and wildlife of the Midwest. His celebrated series of turtle paintings continues to evolve as an exploration of light, movement, resilience, and ecological balance. “The subject of water in nature is an overarching theme in my work,” said Gordy. “I think of it as a theater where reflections, living forms, and shifting surfaces interact in ways that constantly surprise me as a painter.”

The exhibit will be on view with works for sale in the gallery through August 29, 2026.
